Azerbaijani Su-25 Launches SOM-B1 Cruise Missile with UBAS TurDef
TÜBİTAK’s activity report for 2024 reported the launch of the SOM-B1 cruise missile from an Azerbaijani Su-25 attack aircraft using the UBAS system.
With the test in 2024, the Azerbaijani Air Force gained stand-off strike capability for its modernised Su-25 LAÇIN attack aircraft. UBAS (Aircraft-Independent Firing System) seamlessly integrated the SOM-B1 cruise missile into the Soviet-made attack aircraft.
SOM-B1 cruise missile’s integration into the TUSAŞ-modernised Su-25 attack aircraft of the Azerbaijani Air Force is within the scope of the programme’s first phase, Merhale-1.

Azerbaijan displayed five newly acquired JF-17 Thunder fighter jets during its Victory Day parade, officially marking the country as the fourth operator of the China-Pakistan co-developed aircraft. [...] Azerbaijan’s JF-17 jets are part of a $4.6-billion contract for 40 aircraft, first announced by President Ilham Aliyev in September 2024. Deliveries began in October 2025, with the fleet’s initial tranche arriving at Nasosnaya Air Base in Sumqayit after participating in a bilateral exercise with the Pakistan Air Force. [...]

Sources reported that the new jets will serve as cost-effective assets, would improve coordination with the systems of close ally Turkey, and strengthen defense ties with Pakistan.
